RMLT Triple, Double, Single

Edit:

Find us: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=36.011864,+-114.793585&num=1&t=h&vpsrc=0&ie=UTF8&z=18&iwloc=A

Edit continued:

Hope as I might, my knee will not be ready for a century on Feb 22nd.  From conversations I've had with attendees, very few (perhaps one) cyclists will be attempting the triple.  Several will, however, try to double.

Therefore, Sam or I will head up a NO-DROP group on a SINGLE loop.

Starting at the same time will be a "NO-STOP" group that can stop and go as they please.  If you're dropped you can wait for the first group to catch up if you like.  I intend for the second group to be for faster riders who wish to complete the double within a reasonable time.  If you can to a 2:30-2:45 single, you're probably on track for a double.

Of course, if you want to do a double at your own pace, you're entirely welcome to, thought he nature of a choose-your-own-adventure ride might leave you lonely on the trail.

Regardless, as promised, I'll be there with goodies and water, and cell phone numbers you can call if you need a pickup from any car-accessible portion of the loop.

If you INTEND TO TRIPLE, please make it known on the message board, and I have heard the suggestion of coordinating an early start.

We roll promptly at 7am.  I'll be there at 6:30 with treats!

Thanks!

Original:

Come ride the River Mountains Loop Trail clockwise from the visitor center three times. Should be good for a century+ with 7,500 feet of climbing.

Frankly, I'm not sure I can do it and might stop at a double. Feel free to come ride one, two, or three loops with me.

This ride will be semi-supported with my wife on call. If you can't finish I'll make sure you get back to your car. I'll also have several jugs of bottled water at my car for refills and a couple of boxes of clif bars which everyone will be welcome to enjoy.

I don't plan to be in any hurry to finish, but would like to maintain a 2:40/loop pace to finish in a reasonable time. One long rest per loop at the visitor center plus food and restroom breaks. Roll at 7:00 am and be done in time for a huge, late lunch or early dinner. Weather should be perfect.

Thanks Jeff. I think if it would have been a week later, I'd have been good enough to make it. I noticed today that the weather is getting very bike friendly.

Thanks for organizing this ride. I don't think I've ever done a ride where they supplied that much support. (Water, energy bars, etc. ) Great group of guys also.

Epic ride and Adam was an excellent organizer. Thank you for the personal greeting, proteine bars, water, sun screen .. and your cell phone in case of any needed assistance, it's certainly thoughtful and appreciated. Jeff Jones and I manage to do the loop twice, around 72 miles and had a blast. Jeff was hauling ass in the second round, and we manage to finish it in a record time. Wanted to do he century but family was waiting for. Trail was relatively empty and a pleasure to sprint across the hills. JR was climbing quite fast the monstruous first climb while sharing how his level of cadence has improved recently to reach a comfortable speed level while climbing hills. He's certainly a great inspiration.

I was still considering giving it a shot last night, but then I ride down Pecos between Trip. and Sunset. The road is pretty crappy there and I could feel every bump on my ribs. So, it'll have to wait for another day, unfortunately.

So we are going to meet in the parking lot of the Visitors center, NOT the parking lot just below the visitors center?

    1 · February 16, 2014

    • Adam W.

The lower lot, not the actual vc.

Unfortunately, I'm a maybe for the 22nd, at this point. I took a couple falls about a week and a half ago. The first time, I bruised my hip pretty good and it swelled up pretty good. The next day, on that Thursday when it rained, I was talking a turn and my back tire slid out from under me. This time, I smashed my ribs. The hip is pretty much healed and probably wouldn't have been much more than an annoyance anyway, but the ribs are a different story. They've gotten better, but if I cough or hiccup, it's pretty brutal and rib injuries hurt basically any time you move. So, I don't know about climbing hills and breathing heavy unless it heals a lot more by next weekend. Which sucks. I've been slacking off all winter.

Sorry to hear, Kelly. Listen to your body.

I'm going to bow out of this. I learned that Sufferfest I, which was supposed to be held the weekend of the Superbowl, had to be postponed and moved it to Feb. 22, same day as the 3X RMT. So, I'm going to join in on this with friends who are doing it. Sorry they somewhat sabotaged your ride. Be safe, have fun.

    1 · January 26, 2014

    • Robert M.

my digital odometer is wireless and it said 37 mile as well. will ride with a new bike and the same odometer so it will be interesting if it comes up with the same mileage. may have to get a garmin for bikes.
