A comet is set to grace our skies starting next week at sunset. We'll try to go out every clear night to Inwood Hill Park. However, I teach on Wednesday and Saturday nights, so those nights are out for Inwood Hill Park. There will be NO updates on this page whether it is "go" or "no-go" for viewing on a particular night. All "go" or "no-go" alerts will be listed here:
http://www.moonbeam.net/InwoodAstronomy/location-IHP-OVERLOOK.shtml
You'll need to learn to read the skies. If it's cloudy at all, it will not be worth the effort. If the conditions are good, then there will be a "go" alert on the page above. Good means "no clouds at all in the West."
In order to get there, you'll need a trail map and to arrive before sunset. The comet sets about 90 minutes after sunset, so there is only a BRIEF time when it will be visible.
Alerts will also be here:

Here's my write-up on the observing event on the 14th! http://www.moonbeam.net/InwoodA...![]()

Hi, I'm Zita...I would very much like to attend this event with my grandkids; however, I'm not exactly sure where this park is located. Is Bear Rock Park a part of Inwood park? Can someone give me a little heads-up. I know I have to take the A train; but where do I get off...what's the stop? Also, would we be meeting at the entrance of the park or would I have to walk to a specific location within the park?

Jason's observing sessions are great! His local followers in Inwood are really smart and fun and interesting to talk with. If you are lucky enough to be in earshot of Jason during the observing, you'll wish you brought a tape recorder so you can be sure you absorbed all the amazing things he's explained. Noto bene: if the weather is good, this is definitely worth a trip on the A train.
