Hi, what's a good starter telescope?

    May 24, 2013

    • Jason K.

The best is to go to AAA Events like these and use other people's scopes...

The best start or even experienced telescope is the one that you'll use. Meaning the choice depends largely on where and how you'll be observing. Live in an apartment and have to travel to observe? Size, weight and sometimes most important is can it be broken down and carried in one trip by one person. Mostly observing in the city or within its harshly light polluted environs? If you don't already own a pair I think a set of 7X50 binoculars make the best starter scope - think of it as 2 scope for the price of 1. You'll always appreciate binoculars even much later in your astronomy hobby and of course can be used during the day for nature, hiking, ect.

If the weather doesn't cooperate we could always go see Star Trek as a group -- and you could explain the physics of it. :)
