NYC book signing for Anjuan Simmions book, "Minority Tech". It will be held next week on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The event will also include a panel discussion about how men of color can become better allies to women of color at work. The panel will be titled, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?". If you're in The City next Wednesday, then you must stop by!
A message from Anjuan:
I'm happy to announce that I will have a book signing at the HarlemGarage in New York for my book "Minority Tech" on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 7 PM. I'll give away books to a few randomly selected attendees!
I want this to be more than just an event where I sell and sign books. One of the major themes of "Minority Tech" is the often harsh reality of working as anything other than a white male in the technology sector. Sexism, racism, ageism, ableism, and other -isms are rampant in the industry, and I am particularly alarmed at the high level of misogyny. I'm dedicating an hour of the event to an open discussion about incidents that are increasingly happening to women of color in technology (see this list: http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_incidents) and what men of color in tech can do to help as trusted allies. Let's get together and speak on it!
