I recently formed a networking/leads group that meets here at my lunch cafe in North San Jose EVERY OTHER Tuesday at 7:30 am. The group is similar to BNI or BRN (through Chamber of Commerce). The nice thing about our group is that it has the same parameters, and so far the same great results, but is absolutely free to members. I host the location, and do all the administrative work.

If you're not familiar with this type of group, here's a quick explanation. The group is quite structured, in an effort to maximize its effectiveness for all our busy schedules. Attendance is mandatory -- you or a colleague/fill-in are only able to miss up to 3 meetings per quarter before being removed from the group. Also to maximize our results, the group doesn't allow members with competing business offerings. Only one commercial realtor, only 1 caterer, only 1 payroll service provider, etc.

Each week, one member has the floor to spotlight their business service or product, and the remainder of the time is spent sharing & tracking leads & opportunities. So far, there are great leads & new business flying around among us, and everyone in the group seems eager & well connected out in their industries.
