Interesting. Back in the 1980s, VCs in the Slicon Valley  invest in Asian founders. So they turned to family, friends and acquaintances to raise their money. Enough of them got successful that the VCs revised their attitude. These days, they make sure that at least one of their members/employees is Mandarin-speaking.

I like it when people underestimate me. It just makes the surprise and outcome more devastating. Having participaten in 40+ weekend hackathons since Jan 2013, I can assure you that gasbags come in all sizes, shapes and colors and I hate them with the same fine impartiality :)

Hello Eric:

Just read your article and was not surprised about your observations.  As a Linux Administrator, I have to give presentations about a project or a new type of technology we are planning to use.  I can't tell you how many times I've experience management and colleagues attempt to ignore me while doing my presentation.  I also see my audience make faces like here we go again.  I deal with this  by projecting myself while giving my presentation.  Some people tell me that I'm to loud or that I'm overly aggressive when talking or even taking my job to seriously.  Well, if that's how I force people to recognize me, then fuck it.  That's exactly what I'm going to do.  With that said, I make sure that, I'm always crisps when interacting with colleagues and management.  I also make sure that I'm respectful to everyone and amenable to good ideas and constructive criticism.  I wish you the best in your journey along with all the other men and women of African decent in their struggle to succeed in this field of computing(One of the best decisions I've ever made).
