Have been practicing the banjo for 16 weeks, and I hope progress is faster than my 50 years on guitar! I look forward to the jam. See y'all there...
Only my second time ever to jam bluegrass with others, and the group was terrific. Mixed slow jam in with advanced stuff, played many of the great standards, and I even got out my recently acquired banjo and no one groaned. Our gracious host Brad led the group, including lots of good humor and even some comments on bluegrass history. I picked up some new licks from warm and friendly fellow pickers who really love the music. Terrific bass accompaniment helped us stay (mostly) on the beat, and even when the breakdown "broke down," we had some good laughs. I don't know how a newbie could feel more at home. My aging brain recalls 3 mandolins, 5 guitars, 3 banjo folks, fiddle, bass, and my 12 string. I was self-conscious because I took seriously the etiquette (posted in files here), and I passed when it was my turn to pick a song, since I am just a recovering 60's folkie. The bluegrass knowledge in the group is impressive, and I never felt more comfortable sitting in. Thanks, Brad!
