Building a Google Chrome Extension / Windows 8 Applications

Building a Chrome Extension (20 minutes)

Jonathan Julian

It's easy to use your JavaScript knowledge to build upon the popular Google Chrome browser. Learn how to write a simple extension in this 20-minute walkthrough.

Building a Windows Store app with JavaScript (20 minutes)

G. Andrew Duthie

Come learn how you can leverage your knowledge of JavaScript to build great native apps for Windows 8 and Windows RT. You'll get an overview of how a Windows Store app is put together, and also see how you can leverage existing HTML and JavaScript content (including 3rd party libraries like jQuery) inside a Windows Store app.

Presentations will begin at 6:30.

Location: on the Under Armor campus has offered their space to us for our meetups, it's located in the Ivory Building.

The Ivory building is at the end of Haubert St in Locust Point. The area is served by the Charm City Circulator "Banner Route", as well as the MTA #1 bus. You can also take the water taxi over from Fells Point (landing #8) to landing #10. Note that the water taxi service ends at 7pm, and the Circulator ends at 8pm prior to May 1.

If you cycle to the meetup, feel free to bring your bike inside, or you can lock up on one of the racks just outside the building.

Food will be provided – tonight it will be sandwiches from Jimmy Johns. Beverages include water, juice, tea and sometimes beer.

If you drive, park in one of the Green or Purple areas:

Green is designated visitor spaces, they are also marked "visitor" on the pavement. Do not park in 'reserved' or 'handicap' (unless you have a permit). Purple is the Under Armor employee lot, which is available for us to use as well. Interactive Google Map

The Blue marker is the entrance to the meeting space on Haubert St.

The Under Armor campus is generally a well lit and secure area. If you'd feel more comfortable with a security escort to or from your car, call Wolf Professional Security. Free escorts are available from 5pm-11pm by calling[masked]-5266.

Special Needs

We try to always have some vegetarian options available. Fruit and nuts are also available, ask Paris where the snacks are. If you need to refrigerate something, the white fridge in the back of the room is available.

If you have any other special needs, email the organizers. We'll do our best to accomodate you!

Thanks to everyone who showed up! And if you didn't, you missed the presentations as well as the giveaways – Andrew brought a Microsoft Arc Mouse, Arc Keyboard, and a wireless speaker which we raffled off to those in attendance. Thanks Andrew and everyone for making it an interesting evening.

I want to build an app for Bowie State University Alumni which will help current students to connect with them via smart phone or tablet.
