In August we will screen Patent Absurdity, a film that explores the case of software patents and the history of judicial activism that led to their rise, and the harm being done to software developers and the wider economy. Read more at http://patentabsurdity.com.

Screenings are open to members of BES and the BES Ironweed Film Club. Ask Emil about free membership in the film club ([masked], or[masked]). Donations are requested for refreshments.

In honor of the March on Washington anniversary, we began by viewing a portion of MLK Jr.'s speech as recorded in a 1970 documentary film that was aired on Democracy Now today. Then we looked at some photos and video of BES members participating the March on Washington commemoration this past Saturday.

Then we watched the main feature "Patent Absurdity". Ronit's son, mathematician Ben Klemens, was interviewed in the film! That was a pleasant surprise! Good presentation of the problems with software patents. I hope the filmmaker releases an update with the results of the case In re Bilski.
