Sorry for the late notice! Meetup has been giving us issues.
This will be the fourth time for this Meetup at this location. We've had great success with our first three events--turnout has ranged from 10 to 18 gamers at the tables with a good mix of experienced teaching gamers and new gamers.
The Wasteland has a large number of tables for us to spread out and has drinks and snacks for sale. We hope this will turn in to a twice monthly Meetup on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month.
All ages welcome but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. We are a very informal group that gets into the games we play, so don't be afraid to introduce yourself!
For those new to this group, our gaming days are a chance for game lovers to get together for some fun and games. We are a group of friendly folks who play a wide variety of board and card games (shorter, longer, casual, strategic, cooperative, and competitive) and who can help with the rules for beginners. There will be a number of games available for play—the Wasteland has a selection of demo/store games and the organizers and members of our meetup usually bring a selection of our personal games to play as well. Please feel free to bring some of your games too!
Many of the games we enjoy are European games like Power Grid, Agricola, Dominion, and Galaxy Trucker. If you are not familiar with these games, they tend to run from 30 to 90 minutes and are different from most of the boardgames we all grew up with. Players are generally not eliminated from the game, so everybody is engaged for the entire game. They also usually involve the accumulation of victory points, so you generally do not take directly from other players to advance yourself. The games are also very sociable and a lot of fun.
We also play more thematic games like Last Night on Earth, Shadow Hunters, Resistance, and King of Tokyo. These games usually have more direct conflict and player elimination which tends to generate a lot of excitement around the table. These games can be short and sweet and finish in less than 30 minutes, or they can be epic slugfests that deliver hours of entertainment.
