Richard Launius and the League of Extraordinary Gamers are having an all-day gaming event on July 12th. Since many of us already participate in LoEG events, Richard had no problem with us inviting all Gwinnett Boardgame Society gamers to the event. This is the email he sent out a couple of days ago:
Sure, you thought that the League of Extraordinary Gamers was dead, but we were only hiding in the shadows awaiting a time to reappear, and that time is now.
The simple fact is that we had outgrown the clubhouse in my neighborhood and needed to find a new venue. I looked at several things, but nothing ever panned out until Tami Whitsett (big thanks to Tami) discovered that her new apartment building had a large facility that could meet the needs of the size of our group. Therefore, we are active once again.
The League of the Extraordinary Gamers will meet on
Saturday, July 12th
Time: 9:00 AM – Midnight (note: We must be out at Midnight, so cleanup will begin a little after 11:00 PM.
Location of Event: 350 Carpenter Dr, Atlanta, 30328.
The name of the building is Campbell-Stone North. (Or Campbell-Stone SandySprings). There is some Visitor parking in the lot, and they rent spaces in the lot next door, so there should be plenty of parking available. It is recommended that you park in the lot next door to the meeting facility.
Food: We are allowed to bring Food, Drinks (including Beer & Wine). The facility will provide Ice and Trash Bags, but we will also need to bring our own paper products (paper plates, napkins, plastic spoons/forks if you bring food that requires them, and plastic cups).
Capacity: The facility can hold 141 people within fire code and we must abide by that requirement.
Tables & Chairs: They can provide plenty of tables, but only have 90 chairs. This should be fine for the most part, but if you have folding chairs and can bring them that might help.
Cost of Facility: We could not get the facility for free, so there will be a minimal $2 cost per person to attend(what other event can you attend for so little funds). If we gain extra money we will establish a Treasurer position to manage the funds and utilize the funds for events (making some free to attend in the future.
League of Extraordinary Gamers Board: One issue with scheduling and managing the LEGA events is that it has been a one man job up until now. It is my recommendation that we form a 4 –6 person Board and make this a real Game Club, one that might qualify for a library of games sent from publishers. That is a long way out, but I think we need to establish a governing body to ensure that the events occur regularly and it is not too much of a burden on any one person. We can establish this board any way you all prefer, but I think we start with the submission of individuals that are willing to take some responsibilities. So, if you are interested on participating on the board, send me an email with your name. After I have collected names I will send a list out to the group to vote for the Board Members.
Flea Market: Sure, we will have oneat 2:00 PM – so bring some old games to find new homes.
That is all for now, but more information to come.
Let me know if you have any other questions, andlet’s play some games.
