Let's play some 18xx

We talked about this a bit at the last meetup, and it sounded like there is some interest in this. I can host at my house unless Mark wants to play and host. I would suggest 1862 as a good intro to the genre. 1830 works too, but I have had good luck teaching 62 to new players. The strategies are less obtuse, and it plays a little quicker.

YES please note that the hours for that meetup start at 10:30am (instead of noon) and we have to be out by 5pm. So it could be a fairly tight window to get an entire game in!

I'll be there and will plan on starting 18xx @ 10:30, then.

Looks like Craig and I are going to the Cheers meetup on August 2nd to play some 1862 if anyone on this board is interested. It seems like most people are in both groups.

WELL that was fun! Just shy of 6 hrs to play a full game to the end w/3 players... with a LOT of teaching. I had never played any of the 18xx games, but I will in the future!

  • Gene L

I'd be interested in playing in the future

I'm interested in learning the 18xx games, but I can't make it tomorrow. I will keep an eye out for upcoming meetups.

Yes I am also thinking of the Cheers meetup on Sat. Aug 02 as a place I could get, to play again....

Looking forward to it. I will bring 56 and 61 and also poker chips for speeding up the money management.

See you then. I will have

I have packed in some snacks and a few beers. We can order pizza, if people don't have time for dinner beforehand. The rules I've been reading are for "1826" but should apply anywhere. Looking forward to it, guys! See you tomorrow night!

I now have a date on Friday, so I can't play.

Looks like 4 with Chris. If we play 1826, it isn't too long, (under 4 hours even with new players) but it is a less standard 18xx than 1830.

I am all for as "real" an 18xx experience as possible... I have never played but been curious for years....

My wife is out with her pinochle group until at least midnight, so we do have time.... I have a PDF file with directions and phone info, if you folks wanna e-mail me...

So it will be three of us? That will give me a chance to learn it, but may be a VERY long game from what I have read... I will set up the location.

I could also host, but I do have kids, so we'll need to keep the noise down a bit when it gets late. You know how raucous those train gamers can get. My house is in Juanita.

    Works for me.

Mark and I will be out of town for toorcamp so we won't be around but it sounds like a location is in the works so that's great!

I could perhaps host... Our smallish dining room has a table w/leaf that seats (a crowded) 8. So if that's enough space we could do it here -- border of Redmond/Kirkland off of 132nd, just north a ways of 85th/Redmond Way.

If I can get the house cleaned up, I can host this on Friday. My place is around the corner from Beef (Mark?) and Lindsy's place.

hmmm I can't make the 13th... and we are in the middle of prepping to move... The Cheers Aug 02 date would work for me.

We could still play in July without Chris. We did play this past weekend, so a learning game for Craig and JB could be worthwhile. Looks like JB is going to the Cheers group on the 13th, so maybe we could just play there.

    July 2

    • JB

That works. wish we could get together this week, though.

The weekend of Aug 1/2/3 is wide open for me.

    Can't do the 11th.

Friday night, July 11 could work for me... if it's possible to play in one evening...

It's not Twilight Imperium. :p The 11th works for me, too. Schedule the meetup?

      June 30

    • Craig

Very cool... I will try to read up a bit on it, so I won't be completely clueless coming in....

      June 30

  • Craig

hmm this is a game type that I have always been curious about, but I have never played. This is the railroad building and stock buying/dumping game, right? I am interested but time may be hard to come by until about Aug 1/2 or so.

I'll bring 1862 this Saturday, and maybe it will get played. If not, there were a couple other guys in the group who seemed interested, so we should be able to get something together.

Most Saturdays are good, or evenings weekdays except Tuesday.

I own Empire Builder, but none of the others. My favorite was always Iron Dragon.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
