Cards and Dice and Wine

Based on member suggestions, we are trying our very first remote meetup.  Running Hare Vineyard, located in Calvert County, MD, offers tastings of their selections of wines for $5 for the set.  Once finished, they have wine bottles for purchase.  In addition, they encourage you to bring your own picnic lunch, sit and listen to the live music from 12 noon to 4:00 PM and make an afternoon of it at one of their 20 or so tables.  (Each table comfortably seats 4-6 and has a sunshade which you can raise or lower as appropriate.  More information about the vineyard can be found at their website: http:runningharevineyard.com/winetastings.html

This might not be the best venue for complex many-hour games, but we think it could be a great location for simpler games, such as cards (52-deck or otherwise), dice games where you can roll on the inside of the box, etc.)  By arriving earlier for our tasting (about 12 noon or so), we will have our pick of tables, plus will avoid any lines for the wine tasters.

This is a longer trip than most of you usuually have for a meetup.  A quick mapquest check places it at just under 1 hour from Panera Bread in Gambrills.  About 90% of the trip is along US-3S/MD-301S and Route 4S.  Since it would make sense to carpool, when you rsvp I would encourage you to indicate whether you are willing to drive or would like to drive.  Designated drivers (sorry, no wine at the event) are not charged the $5 and can always purchase a bottle to enjoy at home.  The driver and passengers in each car can make their own arrangements for who pays how much for gas and what time the car is leaving the vineyard.  (The vineyard sitting area closes at 5:00 PM, but some groups may wish to head out sooner.

Also, since we are allowed to picnic at the site, it makes sense for us to coordinate what we are bringing to share (so we don't end up with 10 bags of ice or packages of napkins).  Some suggested items could be a cheese and crackers tray, veggie plate and dip, bottles of water for the designated drivers and the dehydrated.  If you are not interested in any food items while you are there, you do not need to bring anything.

Well, I hope to see you there.  As we get closer to the event, check this site.  We will set up the location or locations for carpooling.  The group will not be charging for this event since most of you will be paying the $5 cover charge for the tasting/entertainment.

I tried to meet the group but had to leave at 12:20 PM to attend a funeral. I understand we probably passed on the road as I was leaving. I sure hope to join another outing soon.

These games were fun, but I like more advanced strategy games better.

I work weekends so any event fixed on that day, will be impossible for me to attend.

I can either ride or drive from my home in Odenton.

I can drive leaving from So. Bowie at RTE 301. I do also plan to enjoy the wine tasting without over-imbibing (if that's a word). Up to you if you feel you'd like to ride with me. We will be there for quite a while with food to balance out wine.

Hi Organizer. Can you make a recommendation on what I should bring? How about brownies? Or cheese and crackers?

I will be a driver for the event. I can fit three passengers comfortably or four if those in the back are willing to be a bit squashed. I will bring bottles of water.

Not 100% sure I'd want to do this since I wouldn't be "allowed" to have wine. But it does sound like fun.

I forgot to mention that there are several portapotties at the site but not indoor bathroom facilities.
