A Gathering to Celebrate Tom's Life

  • March 13, 2010 · 12:30 PM
  • D'Youville College - Madonna Hall

As most of you know a long time active member of our group and good friend to many, Tom Dunning, recently passed away. For his final wishes Tom didn't request a memorial service of any kind. A few of Tom's closest friends in the group brainstormed to find a good way to remember him and eventually it was decided to organize a day of gaming in his honor. There will be a short informal service at 12:30pm and open gaming afterwards until about 10pm. Laurie is providing food,
at no charge, for the event at 1pm so we ask everyone to please RVSP as soon as possible to give her some idea of how much to bring. Ryan and a few other people who know Tom's gaming tastes are preparing a list of games to play. If you'd like to contribute to the list of games or make any other suggestions for the event please post on the forum thread. Everyone is welcome and
there is no charge for the food or the room. I'm sure Tom would love to see a gigantic gathering of gaming goodness in his honor.

This was an excellent time. Kudos to those who made it happen. I think they hit their mark.

This was a wonderful tribute, expertly planned, and touchingly executed. I was happy to be included.

What a touching tribute to a gaming guru. We'll miss him terribly. Thank you to all who put this together for the rest of us.

What was a pleasant and heartfelt memorial service for one of the most prolific gamers around was also a great day playing. Thanks to Laurie for the food (which was great) and everyone who helped out. Tom would have been proud.

I have to be in the Southern Tier on Saturday (Jamestown and PA.) I've got close to a 350 mile trek between towns. I plan on being on the road between 4 & 5 am. I'm still hoping to make it, although I don't know what time I'll be there or how tired I'll be.

Trying to respect all of our gaming friends, here is the menu that was ordered:
    golden chicken
stuffed shells in red sauce, not meat sauce
    garden salad w/Italian dressing
    oven baked potatoes
    pasta salad
    buttered corn
    relish tray
    fruited jello
    rolls and butter

Hopefully there is something that everyone will be able to eat.

I am not sure where the $20 came from. This is a free event. I will look into where that came from.

I think there is a misunderstanding on the food. We do not expect people to chip in towards food, it is being covered. It will also be available at 1pm after the short "service", not at a later dinnertime.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
