OT, but have Star Wars people seen the sit down and shut up review? Interested in your reaction.

I saw in my RSS feeds that they are or will release the multi-player Start Wars card game expansion "soon", but I think most people knew this.

I found the review very entertaining ("But it has Han Solo in the box....somewhere"). That being said, with my vast experience of having played about a dozen matches, I don't see some of the same problems he does with the game. I know two of the biggest complaints about the the game is that its "too gamey" (Just like when Darth Vader turned the death star dial in the movie) and that the theme can fall apart (how does a rancor destroy a tie fighter?). For me this is not a problem. I did not expect to sit down to a card game that totally recreates the movies - I know its a game. I know its going to have game mechanics. As far as the theme falling apart goes, although you can get some strange match ups, I've been continually impressed with how thematic some of the cards and combos can be like playing the "Return of the Jedi" card to pull Luke out of your discard pile after he was just squished by Darth Vader. Last night when playing with Jeff, his Imperial Navy deck kept pumping out starships and walkers and commanders and 3 times I saw my objectives vaporized by the death star laser. Meanwhile my rebel alliance troops mounted a desperate attack with snow speeders, y-wing escorts and Echo Base defenders. Did I feel like I was watching a star wars movie? No. But I knew I was playing a star wars game with more than a pasted on theme.

His two other big complaints seemed to be that there is a large learning curve (which I agree with) and that there are no real decisions to be made. The second complaint I totally disagree with. Often times, especially when it comes to fighting the Edge battle, the choices of what cards to commit can be agonizing. You also cannot play all the cards from your hand every turn like he alludes to. Unless you have been really lucky with resource card draws, you are often limited to putting out one or maybe two additional units every turn. In addition, if you did manage to play all your cards, you would be leaving yourself completely open on your opponent's turn because they know you have no way of winning and edge battle - which can have huge consequences.

Those are just a couple of my thoughts. You mileage may vary. No its not LotR or Netrunner, but its not meant to be. Its also not Cthulhu or Warhammer. I can only say that I have enjoyed every match I have played as have my opponents. Now, who can I give my money to to get more cards?

Oh, and back on topic, I'll grab a couple games for tonight, but I can't tell you which ones. We are in the process of recarpeting the room that I store my games in, so they have all been relocated into my now very stuffed full master bedroom. It'll honestly come down to me picking something that I can physically reach.

Turns out I'm not going to be able to come after all. The carpet installers want to do the master bedroom tomorrow, so that means I have to move everything out of that room into the two other rooms tonight. Getting new carpet is a PITA....
