Announcing Meetup Alliance!

I still can't figure out what Alliance IS and what it's FOR.

Is it supposed to be a grouping of google groups, yahoo groups, and meetup groups?

It is an alliance of groups from Meetup, Google, Facebook, MySpace and Yahoo.

I think the idea is to put various organizers of similar groups in touch with each other so we can help each other with advice, like how the Worldwide (enter topic here) Meetup Message boards should work.
Unfortunately the board for my topic seems to be riddled with spam but not many serious users posting or reading, hopefully the alliance will be better moderated and advertised so it should work better for us.

OK, I didn't see until just now that there was actually a discussion forum on the Alliance website. I find the whole setup very confusing.

Also, I view Meetup as a whole different animal, and not in the same arena at all as Facebook, Myspace, yahoogroups & googlegroups, etc. because Meetup is the only one that has a platform where people actually MEET each other face to face. So I don't see the point of inviting yahoogroups, etc. to join in.

I don't think the worldwide boards were ever given much publicity other than in the initial post when you start a group, but if they can be publicized they would probably do a lot of good for us. Also I agree with you about the other platforms. While I have met others in person through them they are not really about face to face interaction

OH! I didn't know about the worldwide boards... thanks for the link!! (when you mentioned this earlier, I thought you meant the Alliance Discussion "board/mailing list")

An easy way to find the world wide boards for any topic is to start at a group that has that as a primary topic, click the link just below the tabs that says "enter topic" Meetups Everywhere
Then click the link on the left that says message boards and you're there.

If the alliance doesn't pan out (I have a feeling that the cross platform aspect is going to be it's downfall, although I hope I'm wrong) maybe we can get some kind of promotion for the world wide boards so that more people are aware of them.

This is the most eye-opening thing I've seen on any Alliance threads.

I am in the Alliance too. Not under my own Alliance group but my group was accepted into it.

i agree. finally there was a discussion board, and i attempted to start a discussion, but it's not there anymore? the only "discussion topics" are the updates that people post...unfortunately, most of these are accidental repeats of mine...and i can't delete them!

sorry to put this here, but i can't seem to find anything similar on the alliance page for discussion.

while we're on the topic, it would be great if it was easier to find my alliances once i'm logged in. have to go into my account in order to find the one and only alliance i'm a part of.

i'm getting ready to start a regular meetup group since i desparately need help and the alliance does not seem to be giving it to me....
