In addition to the above mentioned "updates", also notice the increased font size in the Google ads on the left. confused

Ewwww! You are right! It makes them look like they are pertinent to the Meetup information (instead of ads).. Ick!

Sorry, this is not a welcome change, IMHO, and is very distracting..

I completely agree with the above posts. I spent a lot of time and effort working on my logo and my store only to have Meetup DAYS after I roll it out, put a little link promoting THEIR items.

As stated in the other thread, the items in my store are slightly marked up so that I can offset the costs of running this group that Meetup charges, as well as maintenance and upkeep of the group in general. I am not happy that Meetup has apparently made a deal with Zazzle to promote their shop for, I am sure, a profit that Meetup gets to keep. Will Meetup be offsetting our fees with this profit??

You are freaken astounding....I'd kill for a logo like that.

First a thank you to meetup for the upgrades you try to do for the better part of meetup.com and I am sure to some organizer they are wonderful but to seasoned orgs not so much great for Jan 08.

I agree with the previous post about Meetup Shop! I am confused to as why we have to pay $12-$19 a month for a website that we have no control over except our About Us Page and even then there's not much you can do to it.

I can create my own website for that much a month, have a indepth message board, with catergories and forums inside the catergories, a calendar, and my own GOOGLE ads that I can make money off of and in addition offer prime spots to my sponsors to be recognized. Why does meetup feel the need to charge us, place google ads that we do not benefit from (the topics tend to not work for my group anyways), now you place a MEETUP Shop logo that again Meetup benefits PLUS I get this "wonderful" sponsorship from Huggies (that MEETUP again benefits from) and the Orgs for $19 get????

There are sooo many other upgrades that need to be done and needed other than the ones we just got. A wait list, ability to actually change our welcome page other than adding text to it. Why can't we jazz it up like our About Us page. The Welcome page is the 1st thing prospective members see and it's BORING!

Argghhhh ok off soapbox!

ALSO -- maybe this is a temporary thing, but I am getting "Sorry, an unknown error occurred" every time I try to go directly to my Meetup Message Board from my Bookmarks, or from even typing in the URL . (I'm using Firefox).

Okay, it appears that the big DIFFERENCE is that my bookmark didn't have a SLASH mark at the end of the address.

SO all of a sudden as of this afternoon --
tarot.meetup.com/boards

gets the error message I noted above, but --

tarot.meetup.com/boards/
is okay.

That seems a bit weird...

Will agree that the increased font size of the google ads make them more confusing...of course, I'm sure google loves it...and Meetup, since they get paid for the google ad clicks...

But, considering the recent posts of google ads inappropriate to certain groups, the fact that competitors ads are appearing on other meetup group pages in the form of a google ad, etc....did we really need to increase its presence?

I guess overall it won't affect my group much....but I am in agreement that the increase in font size is..well...huge.

Hello Everyone,

This is Dominic from the Meetup team. I am in charge of the Google Ads and the Sponsorships on Meetup. I am reading your comments and have a seperate thread that discusses the changes in this update and some future ones.

Please take a minute to read this and post Advertising/Sponsorships questions in the other thread so I can answer them in one place.

Thanks. Looking forward to your feedback.

The boards url w/out the trailing '/' issue should now be fixed. Thanks for the bug report, and sorry again for the headaches!
