I'm singing the chorus of the familiar song with Len-

Please give your paying organizers some say BEFORE the upgrades. Tell us what you plan, let us beta test it.

Wouldn't it be nicer than shoving stuff we, your cutomers, don't want down our throats and then dealing with long threads of unhappy customers?

Slightly off-topic: I posted some mock-ups of an upcoming project I have to improve the Tell a Friend feature. It impacts the group home page and since you all feel so strongly about the Meetup Shop sidebar, you may have feelings about where I want to put Tell a Friend.

I got some feedback already, but since I have yet to start the project, the more the better.

So go here and comment!: http://www.meetup.com...

Viviane here, again, from Meetup.

Question: the dozen of you that have asked for the option to turn on/off the Meetup Shop icon on the group pages...
is anyone interested in being able to customize the link so that it points to your store if you have one set up?

If those of you who have posted on this and the other threads about the Shop icon could chime in, that would be helpful (and I'll cross-post this)

We're looking at all the options here because what we want is to help you promote your Meetup!

Thanks.

That would be awesome!!

Viviane-

Thanks for the link; altho I read that thread, now I voted.

next [big leap here] start a new folder in New Features (oh wait, do we have folders on the MB?)
a) proposed changes. Let the folks who want to try it beta test it and Give Feedback before implementation.
b) warn the rest of us what the changes will be BEFORE implementation.

Wouldn't that be more fun? Oh geez, not like this is a new suggestion. I know you've heard it before. I just *thought* new ears might hear it better?

Label what you want feedback about too please ;)

Improved Support for New Meetups
We've expanded the length of time before the 'New Meetup Announcement' is sent out, from 24 hours after a Meetup starts, to 72 hours. This gives Organizers more time to prepare their Meetup before it we sound out an email announcing the new Meetup to everyone interested in that topic in that area. In addition, we've provided guidance-- tips and successful examples-- to help Organizers use that time effectively so that their Meetup looks great when people see it.

We've also made some changes around the site to call attention to Meetups that are less than thirty days old. We've learned that the more quickly a new Meetup can get its first few members, the more likely it is that they'll be successful over the long term. By calling attention to these Meetup newborns (awwww!), we're hoping we can help them get their first few charter members!

more time is a good idea, definitely. even better would be if you could choose when to send that email out (and for some people who like very private groups, to choose whether or not to send it at all.) i just started a new meetup; started it when i had the time & energy to devote to setting it up. invited my co-organizers to join so they could get on board and help put it together, but we didn't have time to plan a meetup before the email went out. also we added our subtopics after the original meetup notification went out (to people on the fitness MitM list)--i guess another email didn't go out to people on the MitM lists for the other topics (adventure, biking, paddling?) i assumed not, but i'm not sure.

just some thoughts :)

also, it looks like the wording was changed for gatherings from "meetup" to "meeting". it was confusing at first but i think it will be a little less so in the long run. (on the other hand, it was how i figured out there was a new release, since its not like we get advance notice about this or anything. :) kind of miss the "meetup" though--gave it the sense of a kind of unique gathering rather than just going to another meeting. i have four to six meetings a week for work, and try to avoid them in my off hours :) Chris' request for an "event" is more broad: it is hard for me to get my head around calling a kayak trip or laser tag a "meeting"!

the meetups in the making change is a little confusing listing all my alerts at the top. threw me off a bit. when do we get to write specific reasons again? like, i don't want to say in the ultimate frisbee meetup in the making why i'm looking for local writers' meetups. but that's what we're stuck with. awful. amateur.

If it means I can turn off the option so I don't have to look at that eyesore, then yes!!!

I just really, really feel the need to remind Meetup that alcoholics and addicts go to meetings, my members go to MeetUPs.

Please, please, please change that. I run a playgroup, not rehab.

Hi Beth -

This is a nasty bug. We're on it and it will be fixed soon.
----------------
Still no fix to text formatting showing in past event descriptions? As I mentioned earlier , and as you all answered you'd try to fix it (because it looks awful). I will NOT use text formatting if this is how it is going to look after the event is past.
