New in January (2008)

Viviane here, again, from Meetup.

Question: the dozen of you that have asked for the option to turn on/off the Meetup Shop icon on the group pages...
is anyone interested in being able to customize the link so that it points to your store if you have one set up?

If those of you who have posted on this and the other threads about the Shop icon could chime in, that would be helpful (and I'll cross-post this)

We're looking at all the options here because what we want is to help you promote your Meetup!

all of our organizers got meetup shirts for Christmas, and they wear them to most of our events. we're working on putting some out there for members too, on a cafepress store, as well as a few other fun things.

i hate to say this, but anyone who's seen one of our organizer's shirts would no way in heck buy the ugly thing that is stuck in the lower left portion of the homepage. O:)

I just really, really feel the need to remind Meetup that alcoholics and addicts go to meetings, my members go to MeetUPs.

Please, please, please change that. I run a playgroup, not rehab.

OMG Heather, you hit the nail right on the head! My 4 year old is not a member of AA (that I know of) and would prefer NOT to send him to a Playdate MEETING!!!

Still no fix to text formatting showing in past event descriptions? As I mentioned earlier , and as you all answered you'd try to fix it (because it looks awful). I will NOT use text formatting if this is how it is going to look after the event is past.

OMG, yeah I totally hate THAT, and also the fact that when I do formatting and graphics it comes out all screwy in the email that goes out and also on the Welcome page when the event is being featured!

Absolutely!! I really dislike the current Meetup store on my page, but would love to see it promote my shop!! I think that is a fantastic way to go about satisfying most!!

Another glitch!

When trying to sort threads by Started By, you get it ok on the first page, but click a page or two ahead and it's messed up again.

So, you click Started By and it alphabetizes again.

What is going on???

This is a wonderful idea. My group also has a CafePress site where we are trying to get members to purchase and promote.

Having the link point to our store may help us to help ourselves.

While I'm here, is there ANYWAY that Meetup can give us just ONE link on the left bar to customize for ourselves (not the one referred to above)?

I would really, really like just ONE which would allow members to go directly to the Message Board Index.

Also, can you change Messages to Message Board? It may help those new members who refuse to read the 3 - 4 messages we send them explaining how to get to the Message Board.

Please change the Meeting title back to EVENT!!!! please....its awful how can you throw a party and call it a meeting. Furthermore none of my events, from singles to hiking to travel or happy hour fall under the category meeting.
My co-organizers and I sent out a new party event today and wouldnt you know that it shows up as a meeting, for crying out loud thats beyond ridiculous.

Also I am not fond of moving the link for promoting meetup items- can the organizer actually have a say in any of this?

While I'm glad that you are giving new organizers support- what about the organizers who have been around a while? What happens to us? Seems like we are always getting overlooked and our opinions don't matter for anything.

I must be an alcoholic or an addict because I go to lots of meetings. I bet your husbands do too. Event is a better word than meeting, but lets not insult people who regularly have to go to meetings for their jobs.
