"If they want to learn about my meetups, they can look at my About Us pages!" I agree! Unfortunately, we have a ton of people coming to the Meetup pages who don't take the time to do that.

ok if people are that stupid and can't read the about us page when my welcome page specifically says READ THE ABOUT US PAGE AND CORRESPONDING LINKS TO LEARN ABOUT OUR GROUP BEFORE APPLYING for membership........then they are not going to be allowed in my group. If people are that lazy and ignorant then they don't care about how many other people gave a thumbs up on some lame comment.

it just looks stupid, I hate it.

I haven't been managing a group very long on here but I have been a member of MANY MANY online forums, and most of those forums offer alot of what you have here and then many of the things other people are asking for, so we KNOW it can be done...my husband does this kind of stuff for a living so I know what it takes to code this stuff and I know alot of what people are asking for IS NOT that hard to do....so why are we fiddle farting around with all this nonsense. There are some TRUE NEEDED things that people are asking for, this is just a waste of people's time and that's why people are upset about this. You say you are listening but to whom?

like shouts, i don't really care for it one way or another. it's just fluff. but i am curious about how often they will rotate. one of my favorite things was that whenever i looked at our home page i saw a different comment every time...used to remind me that i haven't seen that person in awhile, or of the great event that comment was written after. now it's just the same three, for two days now...?

a bit disappointed that this had time spent on it, when i'm nearly desparate for other tools that will help me run my meetup better...like a member search so i can find specific people without having to page through 30 pages of members. or forums for our message boards. or the ability to give certain people certain organizational abilities (i am approaching 20 orgs! and need more! but i don't need each of them to do everything!)

but thanks again for the message board search feature!

I just like to say that although I don't see the point, that obviously other members reported back to Meetup that they'd like something like this. I guess we organizers have to remember that we're not the only ones that use this site and have a say in what gets done.

I will say that if you're going to have this perhaps you should get rid of the star ratings since those typically don't represent a group. While comments do.

i don't think that is what happened. i think someone at meetup noticed how successful rating comments has been on youtube. but meetup is not youtube. meetup comments aren't made by children or laced with profanity or spam or chain comments. it isn't necessary here.

..that obviously other members reported back to Meetup that they'd like something like this.

I disagree that it is obvious at all.

Yes, we are given vague language that implies someone somewhere was maybe asking for this, but in fact, I doubt it.
  • Why this, and not all the other things we are reporting back to Meetup that we need changed, fixed, enhanced or dropped?? Like could we PLEASE get a response about the nomenclature change to "Meetings???"" And the problems with shouts? And all the other seemingly arbitrary changes getting dumped on us out of the blue??
  • I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that Meetup was looking for a new way to program for randomized feedback quotes to be displayed in other parts of the site. In other words, this solves a problem that the PROGRAMMERS were having. Not us. It makes their job easier. Never mind if it creates problems for us. The rest is just spin.

Sorry, but that's what it looks like to me.

Meetup:

I agree with the vast majority, I do not like this weeks new upgrade. There are so many other things you could be working on, things we all have been asking for.

You can make everyone happy by giving us the option to turn it off.

I am concerned with the weekly upgrades concept. I would rather you all take a month or so and give us something really good then stuff like this once a week.

Two things that would be really good are being able to specify what and AO can do and being able to send emails to any combination of members.

Well, until this gets fixed/resolved, I just went into my manage comments and dropped all comments off the welcome page. Of course all the comments can still can be viewed--but they are not causing confusion, clutter and personal anxiety for me--and I can get back to organizing!

Here is what seems to be happening. People are only voting for the first 3 comments that showed up. They aren't taking the time, or making the effort to click on show all and see any other comments. They have no reason to. So, only the first three that were chosen are being shown. I don't think this is going to get much realistic use. Without telling people that you want them to vote for their favorite, they aren't going to get it, or do it. It won't be actually representative unless people actually take the time to look though comments and vote. Again, making this a useless tool.

I told my members to vote and they all voted for all of them. For some reason they still are not rotating even though all of them have the same amount of votes. confused

Hi again,

2 things:

1) The "all comments" page always showed comments that orgs chose to hide on the home page. So, for better or worse, this isn't technically a bug. The option to hide quotes was only to pick which ones were "featured" on the home page.

The thing we changed is the link on your home page goes to All Comments instead of About Us. We'll change that link back.

2) We're making some other quick tweaks to this project based on your feedback that will launch next week. I'll keep you up to date as we work them out.

Thanks,
Jesse
