Hi Chris!
...and another week goes by with my movie EVENTS still unnecessarily labeled as MEETINGS. We changed the terms on the site in order to distinguish between your Meetups (events and meetings) and the Meetup (group) itself. The amazing thing about the term 'Meetup' is that it's used as both a noun and a verb. We were hoping to dispel confusion! That being said, we hear you. Please know that your concerns are being taking into consideration. Many thanks again for your feedback - Andrea |

I am kind of annoyed that you took away the box where the organizer could estimate the attendance. I know you are trying to get us to use the attendance feature, but since the attendance feature does not take into account members who are not members of that meetup, it is annoying to have to figure out how many additional members showed up but then didn't sign up and then figure out how many people who showed up who aren't members of that meetup and then have to put them down as a guest.

Maybe we should have a choice back like way back when, when we could chose between an activity, event, meeting, social gathering, ect...

Hi Chris!...and another week goes by with my movie EVENTS still unnecessarily labeled as MEETINGS. Well Thank you Andrea for finally responding [as Meetup staff] to why the term was changed. I don't agree with the corporate logic on this at all, and it took too darn long to get any response on why it was changed. We are members & organizers of Meetup. We have MeetupS. My group doesn't have meetings. The change of language is important, was done without any word to us paying customers and we're telling the Meetup Inc : we want it changed. How long do we have to wait for that? KarenL |

I am not as hot and bothered as some about the change in terms, I never even noticed it to tell you the truth until I read about it on the board. I do however think Meetup shoots itself in the foot by not using "Meetup" as often as possible. ie. "Meetup is a great social networking tool" , "can't wait to see you again at the next Meetup!", etc, etc, etc. I guess I have never cared what the events are 'called' on the site because whether I'm planning a game night, a craft night, a cooking event, or a computer event, I always say "I have a Meetup that day". It seems just silly that Meetup wouldn't want to keep it that way.

"...we hear you. Please know that your concerns are being taking into consideration." Here's something else for the Meetup staff to take into consideration that specifically details the confusion and frustration you've caused (some of us): In February I had an Oscar Party EVENT - not an Oscar Party MEETING. See, I have MEETINGS to plan the details of my Oscar Party EVENT. Make sense yet? Another example: In May I am planning EVENTS for the films "Iron Man," "Speed Racer," and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." According to your (forced) verbage, I have to invite my members to my "Iron Man" MEETING, my "Speed Racer" MEETING, and my "Indiana Jones" MEETING. Looks dorky when you read it, huh Meetup staff? Sounds even dorkier when you SAY IT. Consider THAT! |

I agree with the above posts. If there will be confusion between the terms, why not stay with the term event? It seems to cover more territory for the types of meetups we see on the site.
Also, when I rate an EVENT I can't tell what I thought of it, I can only tell what i think of my group. Is there a reason this was changed? There is no way to make a comment about what I thought of the EVENT specifically. |

"...we hear you. Please know that your concerns are being taking into consideration." You know, instead of needlessly complaining about it, you could edit your event and change what it's called. That's what I've done these past 2 months. It sets it as the "March Meeting", I change it to the "March Meetup". Pretty simple, IMO. xD |
