Stop me if you've heard this one before...

And now, from the creative team that brought you "The Renee Method" (for getting meetup ratings from members who never RSVP'ed), comes an all-new workaround:

(drum roll, please)

"Cancelling a Past Meetup"!! (insert trumpet fanfare here)

So, your meetup was cancelled, but you didn't get a chance to remove it from the calendar before it became a past meetup.

"Oh, what shall I do?"

I hear you cry.

"Never fear, fair maiden/good sir, I shall rescue you!"

First, go to the site of the dreaded PAST MEETUP. Let's say you Organize the procrastinators meetup group #12, and your most recent meetup (#1234567) got cancelled, and you never got around to removing it from the procrastinators calendar.

So, you go to:

http:/ /procrastinators.meetup.com/12/calendar/1234567/

(Spaces added for visibility of URL)

Then, insert the following text immediately after the
'/' after the word 'calendar':

?title=Renee+Removal+Method&eventId=

(Again, ignore the space in the middle of the word 'event')

This should give you:

http:/ /procrastinators.meetup.com/12/ calendar/?title=Renee+Removal+Method&eventId=1234567/

(Ignore the line break; it's all supposed to be on one line.)

Then, take out the final '/' at the end of the address and replace it with:

&action=cancel

And, presto, chango! You have the address you need to cancel the meetup.

http:/ /procrastinators.meetup.com/12/ calendar/?title=Renee+Removal+Method&eventId=7567847&action=cancel

You may then elect to cancel the meetup and leave it on the calendar, or cancel it and remove it from the calendar (click on the red button of your choice).

This avoids the awkwardness of having the cancelled meetup on your calendar forever, and allows you to start fresh with another meetup on a different date.

Note: if you intend to reschedule the exact same meetup on a different date, you might find it helpful to click on the 'copy' button BEFORE using the Renee Removal Method to reschedule it!

Remember:

1. Insert ?title=Renee+Removal+Method&eventId= right after 'calendar/' and right before the 7-digit meetup number.

2. Replace the final '/' with &action=cancel

Hope you find this useful!

Fantastic!

Just need to be sure to remove the spacing in the word event.

How DID you know?

That's a trade secret, handed down from generation to generation as one of the Renee Method pearls of wisdom.

Actually, it's just being geeky and comparing URL's.

I kept getting this ... "I think I've seen another work-around for this before" ... kind of feeling knocking on my memory bank. Soooo, I did a quick look thru on my "cheat-sheet", and found this:

Per Dean Logan (Posted Dec 4, 2007 at 9:31 AM) :

Does anyone know a way that you can edit or erase past events?

Well, there used to be a button to delete, but now you have to do a work around.

~ From your calendar, get your event ID

~ In the URL locater on your browser, put the following url (replacing the values with yours):

[your group's url]/calendar/?eventId=[eventid]&action=cancel

You will get a page asking if you just want to cancel it, or cancel it and remove it from the calendar. Choose the link to cancel it and remove it from the calendar.

Repeat steps for each of the events.

I still think ReneeA (Renee Methods, Inc.) is brilliant! Dean's pretty awesome too! wink
