could you please add an "end time" to the calendar meetup options.?

It would be such a great help for some of our meetups, to just have that in the options!
thanks for doing such a great job.
we all love this site.
it has been a lifesaver for all of us!

Hi Mark,

Any chance future updates could be scheduled at a more convenient time? Something like 3 AM on a Sunday? We just moved our group to Meetup a couple of weeks ago. I'm having a little trouble getting buy in from the membership. Most of my members check the site when they get in the office. Which happens to be between 9 and 9:30 AM. This is the second 9 AM update since we've signed up. So of course the site has been completely down twice already. Why 9 AM EST?

John

This same request comes round regularly. 9am for you is also 2pm for me. Just after lunch on Tuesday afternoon. So when I have done with lunch the site goes down for a short time. 9am on Tuesday is what Meetup has been doing for quite a while now, and it is convenient for them. Not so convenient for some, but by and large, the US western states are seeing the update occur in the early hours.

Meetup has stated that their goal is to do live updates, but this is a goal they are working towards, not one that is ready to implement just yet. In the mean time, you might have to get used to 9am Tuesday as something you are very much aware of. - Scheduled down time.

For those worried that I am sounding like I am pro-Meetup, rest assured. I am, and have always been pro-Meetup. I only use brickbats when they are deserved.

Thanks Val!

End times are something the team I'm on is considering, as we're working on event-related projects. Another aspect to this that we've had requests for is if the end time is on another day (like a hiking trip.) We hope to eventually get to this.

Hi Mark and Diane,

I have been trying to connect and change my RSVP to being "unable to attend." Still can't get through, so please open up 3 more spaces (I had 2 guests also)

Thank you...and have a MEOW evening!

Roberta

Hey Mark ~

Out of curiosity....do you guys plan to ever install an instant messenger so group members can chat online away from events? I think this would be a great feature to add to meetup.

Here's a thread on Meetup - Twitter integration.

I KNOW THE GOAL IS TO GET PEOPLE OFF THE INTERNET, BUT IF WE ARE ABLE TO CHAT IN A MSG BOX & BE ABLE TO SEE WHO IS ONLINE AT THE TIME WE ARE ONLINE & BE ABLE TO CONVERSE WITH THEM ...THAT ONLY HELPS IN GETTING TO KNOW PEOPLE WHICH ONLY PROMOTES MORE CHANCES FOR MEETINGS (FUTHERING YOUR GOAL OF GETTING THEM OFFLINE MORE), I HAVE THE BAGGERS & HAWGS DEN FOR MOTORCYCLISTS & SOME GO ONLINE TO POST ALITTLE MSG ABOUT HOW THEIR ABOUT TO HOP ON THEIR BIKES & GO FOR A RIDE IN HOPES OF SOMEONE SEEING IT LAST MIN. SO FOR US IT ACTUALLY HINDERS THE ABLITY FOR HOOKING UP WITH OUR OTHER RIDING BUDDY MEMBERS, IF WE KNOW THEIR IS 4 ONLINE THAT CAN HOOK UP FOR DINNER OR COFFEE & ALITTLE RIDE. SO I DON'T SEE THE ARGUMENT OF " WE ARE NOT GOING TO DO THAT TO TRY TO GET PEOPLE OFFLINE. THIS WOULD HELP US OUT TREMEMDOUSLY IF WE HAD THAT CAPABILITY. I'VE EMAILED MEET UPS ABOUT THIS IDEA AND WAS TOLD. IT'S TO GET PEOPLE OFFLINE, BUT OBVIOUSLY THEIR IS PEOPLE ASKING FOR IT & MEET UPS ASK'S US TO CONTACT THEM IF WE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO IMPROVE THE SITE, SO WHY NOT SUPPLY THE PAYING CUSTOMERS WITH WHAT THEY ARE ASKING FOR. & SEEING OTHERS ASKING FOR THIS ALSO IN THIS FORUM, WHY WILL MEET UPS NOT DO THIS FOR US WHEN WE ARE ASKING FOR IT. OUR ROOM WOULD JUST ROCK IF WE COULD GET THIS DONE. JUST THOUGHT I'D GET MY LITTLE 2 CENTS WORTH IN. MEET UPS IS A GREAT PLACE TO CONNECT WITH OTHERS. I FIND THIS ALITTLE FRUSTRATING THAT WE COULD HAVE THE ABILITY TO HOOK UP MORE BUT MEET UPS WON'T ALLOW IT. ANYWAYS ! JUST HOPE THIS HELPS IN GETTING THINGS CHANGED. MAYBE IF ENOUGH POEPLE REQUEST IT. IT WILL FINALLY BE DONE. I REALLY HOPE MORE POEPLE REQUEST IT & LOOK FORWARD TO THE DAY THIS DOES GET DONE
THANKS !!

I don't understand why meetup would not be interested in providing us with something like a IM. Why is my advise any less of a value? Why should I have to go to another site and inconvenience everyone in my group to have to go and register at another site when we can all go to one place (here at meetup) to have all our needs met. Don't you think that meetups, and get togethers can happen at a spur of the moment due to having a IM? My group that I lead (Live & Let Scrap) gets together quit often, but in our down time in the evening we would like to have the ability to chat to one another. We have families and can not be gone as much as we would like, but being on the computer for a scheduled chat is doable. It is that added little feature that can help to make a group stronger, and to help us get to know each other better. I am not talking about an IM with just 2 people, I am saying the ability to have the entire group chat at the same time. I can't possibly be the first and only person to request this feature, so I don't understand why it is such a big deal to not add it.

I hope that the officers of this site will really rethink about this added feature. I really do think it would be a great way to pull people in and get people out of the house, even at the spur of the moment.

Tracey-

although I would not use an IM feature on Meetup, here are a couple options that may help your group chat on line.

ChatUp
Chatzy

good luck
