We have a new release today!
Browsing member profiles is a great way for Organizers and their members to get to know each other before getting together, face to face at a group's next Meetup. They also help people thinking about joining a Meetup Group get an idea of what the members are like and what the group is about. It can be time consuming for Organizers to ask new members to fill out their profiles once they've already joined. It can also be painstaking for Organizers to re-order profile questions once they've been created. Well, I am here to ease your pain and frustration. Organizers can click on "Group Settings" --> "Your Members": 1. make having an introduction, a photo and/or answers to profile questions required for members to join the Meetup Group. 2. re-arrange profile questions by dragging and dropping them in the order they choose ![]() We also: -moved "How can new members join?" from the "Privacy" section to the "Your members" section -cleaned up design and styling of several of the "Group Settings" sections Thanks, Mark Edited by Maya Meetup on Jul 6, 2009 6:59 PM |

1. make having an introduction, a photo and/or answers to profile questions required for members to join the Meetup Group. YAY!!! LOVE IT!!! Thanks, ~Pamela~ FYI - this upgrade reversed the order of ALL my profile questions in ALL the groups I Organize ... just a friendly "heads-up" ... good thing it was so easy to re-order! ![]() |

Some much requested functionality.
Not perfect implementation it seems, but the new functionality means even that was easily rectified. Meetup does deserve kudos for rolling this one out to us sometimes beleaguered organisers. I have found a way to explain the mandatory requirements, by using non-mandatory questions as explanations; but if I had required answers to profile questions, would not have had the means to explain why the photo is a requirement. Would it be too much to ask the ability to customise the following text? The Organizer, ~name~, has requested that you fill out your profile before you join ~groupname~ I would have done it slightly differently. Naturally I would have spelled organiser correctly, but also I would like to explain that the requested graphic serves as the member avatar and so gives posts by the member a persona that other members can associate them with, and if the graphic is a photo, it also helps people identify them at events. However, this request is over and above the grateful thanks of myself and those organisers who have been requesting these particular enhancements for a long time, and have perhaps grown tired of ever seeing the results of their dogged requests put into action. When I went to reorder my profile questions it wrote over one instead of moving it up one position, meaning the same question was asked twice.
It was easy to fix but Orgs need to keep an eye on this. I also stopped receiving the new member notification on my group when I updated some settings in this screen. Yes, the box was still checked. |

Hi Jeff,
When I went to reorder my profile questions it wrote over one instead of moving it up one position, meaning the same question was asked twice. Thanks for the report! We truly apologize. The reordering was an unfortunate side effect when the page was upgraded. If anyone needs help rectifying it, please email support@meetup.com directly and we'll be happy to take care of it.I also stopped receiving the new member notification on my group when I updated some settings in this screen. Yes, the box was still checked. I checked to see if the system sent out the notifications, and I was able to find them in the database. It looks like they were sent out (particularly for the folks who joined on July 5th). I've just sent you a message directly so I can investigate further. When you have a moment, please check your email! Andrea |

Thanks for the email Andrea!
(For those following along at home) stated in my reply... This was going on with my first group (Road bikes). The Mountain bike side was working fine. I noticed a few new mountain bikers had joined without answering their profile questions, so I updated those settings to make them mandatory. Now the mountain bike side is not sending any new member notifications either. I did not receive a notification when you joined. Edited by Jeff S on Jul 6, 2009 3:35 PM |
