I think the Austin Book Arts Group are well organized, smart & a fun group. I 'd like to meet more often or maybe have a "power Meeting" meaning several demos & speakers during the same meeting
John, do you mean writing children's books or binding them? ABW did a class on board books a while back and it would be worth doing again. As for writing them, I think there is a section of the Austin Writers Guild with that focus. Here are a couple of my board books. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeromeco...
John, My 2 cents. The best foundation in bookmaking is to learn to make a traditional case bound book, like any hardcover book, to learn to make/sew a book block and a cover and attach them. I recommned the kit from Hollanders standard one: $30 very easy to follow. I have a DVD called "Bookbinding A Traditional Technique" cheap. You can borrow mine to preview but can't let you keep it to work with. Pick it up at my house. I can show you the kit instructions and the book I made. Phone 441.2349.
