We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson

Shirley Jackson is best known for her short story "The Lottery", but she also wrote several novels and a few works of non-fiction. The New York Times said her writing, "gave the impression that Miss Jackson was at bottom a moralist who was saying that cruel and lustful conduct is not far below the surface in those who count themselves normal and respectable, and that society can act with inquisitorial torture against individuals it finds odd."
The novel is short, and the group would welcome perspectives on other works by the author.
