Stone Creek
By Victoria Lustbader

Stone CreekENTER TO WIN THIS BOOK FOR YOUR BOOK CLUB

Notes from author Victoria Lustbader

Dear Reader.

All stories come from the heart, but some come from a deeper place in the heart than others. Stone Creek, my second novel, is such a story.  It is a tale of grievous loss and disappointment, and about reaching a point in life, which we all do, when we must find happiness in what we have, even if it's not everything we wanted or believed we needed for happiness.  We must, because the alternative does not make for an acceptable existence.

I had reached that point in my own life.  WritingStone Creek was the expression of a personal life transition, but I had no doubt that it was not merelymy story, despite my sharing the pain of childlessness with Lily, my heroine.  It was everyone's story. Because everyone, whatever the source, suffers the agonies of loss and disappointment, and must decide whether or not those agonies will forever define their lives.

Stone Creek is neither a tragedy of loss, nor a fantasy of loss redeemed.  It is an authentic depiction of the dark places we can find ourselves, and our brave and beautiful struggles to make our way back into the light.  It is as ambiguous as real life, and as hopeful.

Big Money
by Jack Getze

A note from author Jack Getze

Dear Readers,

Although we now live in New Jersey, both myself and my character Austin Carr grew up on the east side of Los Angeles. We share a strong affection for virtually all things of Mexican origin--particularly corn tortillas, tequila, the Cisco Kid, refried beans, crispy stringy-beef tacos, live mariachi music, and yes, even the donning of silly sombreros during certain celebrations in May.

It could have been my early school trip to Los Angeles's historic town center, Olvera Street, or a four-hour family visit to Tijuana one or two years later. Maybe it was my first love, a fourth-grade classmate, the freckled Miss Lopez. Whatever the reason, to this day I enjoy all things remotely connected to south of the border. Well, except bullfights.

It is therefore no coincidence that Austin Carr spends much of his fictional time belly up to the horseshoe bar at Luis's Mexican Grill, home of spicy food and blue aguave tequila. If it's May 5th, you might see both of us celebrating in our sombreros.

To Enter Jerusalem
By Craig Eisendrath

To Enter JerusalemENTER TO WIN THIS BOOK FOR YOUR BOOK CLUB

A note from author Craig Eisendrath

Dear Readers,

When I first entered the diplomatic service, I was assigned to the UN Political Office.  Dag Hammarskjold was Secretary General of the United Nations, and a statesman of incredible skill and courage, who eventually was shot down in the Congo on a mission that he knew might result in his death.  In To Enter Jerusalem, I wanted to create a person like Hammarskjold who could serve as an inspiration to all of us.

I want readers to be inspired by the image of a man who overcomes the intense pain of his private life to serve the world.  We all need such images to serve as models for our lives.  I hope that in To Enter Jerusalem, I have created such an image.

All We Ever Wanted Was Everything
By Janelle Brown

all we ever wantedENTER TO WIN THIS BOOK FOR YOUR BOOK CLUB

A note from author Janelle Brown

Dear Reader:

I grew up in Silicon Valley, in a town that has since become the most expensive zip code in America. It's where the Google billionaires now build their mansions and where Larry Ellison keeps his Japanese compound. For a decade post-college, I wrote about Silicon Valley and San Francisco, the rise of the Internet and the dot-com boom; but I was always more interested in the culture of this area, the way the rapidly changing milieu was effecting the human stories inside it, impacting the fabric of personal relationships.

This is where the story of the Miller family came from. We live in an age in which our measures of success   -- whether boggling riches, Internet fame, overnight celebrity -- have been so totally distorted that it's almost impossible to define the term anymore, let alone "measure up." Each of the Miller women - Janice, Margaret, and Lizzie - have come to realize that they have fallen short of some invisible (and unattainable) mark. Intead, they hide their failures from themselves, from each other, from the outside world.

I hope that ALL WE EVER WANTED IS EVERYTHING is food for thought - as well as being a fast-paced and entertaining read.

Janelle

Divorcing Dwayne

A note from J. L. Miles

Dear Readers,

Divorcing Dwayne is the first in a three book southern anthology featuring Francine Harper and her no-good husband Dwayne. Francine-under felony assault charges for shooting at Dwayne and his stripper/lover Carla from the Peel 'n Squeal-discovers her strengths and regains her dignity via a trial and many errors. Aided by best friend Ray Anne Pickles, Francine, who manages to continuously run afoul of the law, is eventually vindicated and discovers what really matters most.

I wrote the book to honor all the women who've had cheating husbands to let them know there's lots to life after being married to a skirt-chaser.
