I will be choosing a book for July in the next couple of days. So send me your preferences or your suggestions or post them on the message board. Since we are right at the end of the month I just want to take a couple of days to pick a book. The following are choices that have come up frequently from members. *books we already read
1. Pillars of the Earth* 2. Marilynne Robinsons Home, nominated for The National Book Award 3. What is the What 4. in Europe (nonfiction I believe) 5. China Road 6. Sex Lives of Cannibals* 7. Dead Lucky (nonfiction) 8. Lolita* 9. Reading Lolita in Tehran
I am kind of ready for nonfiction, but I will go with the majority. Thanks in advance for your input! Sarah organizer
We are a diverse group of people. Though if I had to generalize, a majority of the attendees are professionals, ages 30's through 50's. But that is not a required demographic to attend.
Most important is to come with an open mind, and a sense of humor always helps. The group can and does get into a healthy, lively, and sometimes a little contentious debates. But our discussions are better described as lively, respectful, and interesting, intellectual dialogues; not mean-spirited arguing.
Please bring a simple snack or beverage of any sort; please don't make it a chore for yourself though; bring simple stuff, something you already have at home maybe--a can of nuts, some oranges from your tree--simple, simple to just sustain some people have maybe didn't get to eat much after work. Although if you want to be fancy, bring it on!
We alternate back and forth between 2 mos. of fiction, and 1 mos., nonfiction.
When: Last Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Tahoe Park area in Sacramento (we used to meet in Midtown)
