it "pains" me to cancel b/c can't drive d/t migraine meds.SO LOOKING FORWARD 2 TONIGHT! Been carrying around book for over a mo trying to make sense of it-on many levels. It's when U end up having more to say about a book that seems forgettable. I GOT that SAND is lg part of Sahara's culture! Most interesting @ end of book is Bib of Paul Bowles' literary, musical.literary review, etc. presented as his travel/career Bio It's clear his personal life is reflected in this book. His transient gypsy"anti-intellectualism"-yet genius nature as his muse.Embarrassed to say had never heard of Bowles when he was a friendly contemporary w/ so many cultural game changers in the literary & cultural world of our time.. From Aaron Copland- Ferlenghetti of SF"s City Light's Natl Indie bookstore that introduced many of some of the still controversial writers of the modern age. I'm HOPING some of U who got to the meeting will share some of UR thoughts & those themes expressed @ the meeting. See U in Dec.

Just so you know, there is a Goodreads review in which the reviewer called Kit "a slut." Grrrrr.

Julie, Good to know.I was just about to ask. After forcing myself thru 100 pgs- was close to giving up. Little time to read, & kept waiting "to care" about any characters & what was the point?

For anyone having trouble getting into the book, stay with it; trust me, it picks up in Part two. And how!

I can't make this month's book club. I have been aligned to a new group of mgrs and there is a mtg and a group outing afterwards. Probably won't make it back til the Jan mtg.
