I'm Ina...a new member. I look forward to meeting you at my first meeting tomorrow. I don't read a lot of mysteries,so don't have any suggestions to offer you there. These three were among my favorite fiction books this past year, that I think would generate a good discussion: All are available in paperback.
American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld (a NY Times Notable book)
Loosely based on events in Laura Bush's life. Quiet librarian marries the black sheep of a political family and inadvertently ends up in the White House. Thought provoking questions about marriage, loyalty, and responsibility.
Testimony by Anita Shreve
Aftermath of a sex scandal at an elite New England boarding school and the lives affected.
Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahirii
Short, stories about the experience of Bengali immigrant parents and their U.S. born children. Beautifully captured stories of cultural and generational gulfs and identity struggles that we all can relate to.
