We had a nice turnout for our discussion of The Lost City of Z, by Daid Grann. There was certainly plenty to talk about concerning early 20th century British explorer Percy Fawcett! Fawcett was an intense man of extremes and extreme contradictions. One thing on which we could all agree is that the plethora of predators and exotic parasites awaiting would-be explorers in the Amazonian jungle is truly horrifying!
Our next selection will be The Sense of an Ending, winner of the 2011 Man Booker Prize, by Julian Barnes. NPR reviewer Heller McAlpin calls it an elegantly composed, quietly devastating tale about memory, aging, time and remorse...
Thanks for everyone's suggestions for our upcoming 2013 booklist. I will be compiling the list, with a thumbnail sketch of each book, so that we can make our final selections at the February 21 Meetup.
Please remember that free parking at street meters is available after 6:00 PM all along North street, just one block north of the Rathskeller.
Finally, there has been some confusion as to just where on our website the club's booklist can be found. The list can be brought up by clicking on the "About us..." link, found on the left margin of our home page.
See you Thursday, February 21, 6:30 PM at the Rathskeller!
