We welcomed two new members to our April Meetup for a discussion of When the Emperor Was Divine, by Julie Otsuka. This novel explores a shameful era in American history, the forcible internment of Japanese Americans during most of World War II. Otsuka weaves a claustrophobic narrative of trust shattered, lives altered and sometimes crushed by fear and hate often cloaked by anonymity.
Our May selection, Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness, is an award-winning memoir and medical mystery about one woman's struggle to recapture her identity. It promises to be a gripping and fascinating read.
I will soon be posting the book list and schedule for the upcoming 12 months. We hope to see you at The Rathskeller soon!
