August book club meet up

In the spirit of our summer reading tradition of the classics, we'll be reading Moby Dick by Herman Melville, maties! We will be meeting over the book twice, once on August 11 and again on September 1. We have special guest Professor John Bryant joining us for both meetings. Dr. Bryant is a Melville scholar and co-edited the Longman Critical Edition of the book, available on Amazon, but not on Kindle yet. If you're buying the book please purchase his edition.

He write, "One thing I like to do is ask readers to bring with them two things on a notecard or single sheet: their favorite lines or section from MD and the lines or section they really hate. They can mark it in their copy of the book as well."

See you then.

Thanks to Professor John Bryant for an engrossing conversation on Moby Dick and Herman Melville. We'll meet again in September to continue the conversation. Please come.

Had a tough time getting through it, loved the poetry, Quequog and Ishmael in the beginning. Accessed the book on Kindle, $.99

Hi, is there a suggested "break" point in reading between the meetings? (A particular chapter?) Or are both meetings intended for discussions of the entire book?

Recommended break point in Moby Dick: The Shark Massacre, Ch. 66.
