The Austin Books and Chatter Group Message Board › ANNA KARENINA
A group of us are starting a group to read and study Tolstoy's ANNA KARENINA. We'd like 4 more people to take the group to 10. We are meeting to review, discuss and understand Book 1 which begins with the enigmatic first sentence: "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." I think this is Tolstoy's greatest work because it was written while he was firmly embedded in "the world" but quickly moving to his ascetic life and therefore his perspective on the times and the people is remarkable.
The first meeting will be August 22 (Sunday) at 2:00 at a member's home off S. Congress. If you're interested and can seriously take this on - 816 pages - probably 3 months if we stick with a 'Part' from the novel every 2 weeks send me an email or call.
