It was agreed that this book is difficult to read and it elicited strong reactions of a varied nature from those who did read it. I'd like to know how other participants felt about this meeting.

So sorry I missed the meeting last evening. I really was looking forward to the discussion. I found it difficult to follow all the secondary characters in the book so had to sometimes read a chapter a second time. That being said the story of Ayaan Hirshi Ali and Aafia Siddiqui and their families was a frightening example of how differently people see the world , and also to what extremes a person with extreme views will go to carry out what they feel is right.
All in all the book kept me intrigued.

sorry I missed you all tonight. I had been looking forward to hearing the discussion on this book but alas other responsibilities took me away. Anyway, just to add my 2 cents worth - I learned a lot about Islam with this book, though i found it rather confusing with the flipping back and forth between the two women. On a side note, just after I finished reading it, I heard a news report that Al-Queda (not sure of spelling) had published an English language magazine in which they had issued a fatwa (I think that's what they said) against Salmon Rusdie and Ayan Hirsi-Ali whom they listed as being Dutch Canadian. I was unable to find any reference to her ever being a Canadian citizen - anyone else?

The book was confusing and frightful when talking about life as a muslim and the violence they iccur as children.

I'm wondering if anyone has a copy of this month's book that I could borrow? I have been on the waiting list at the library for a while and am concerned that I won't get it in time to read it before April 17th. I can come and pick it up. Thanks!

Thanks Heather. I've also placed a hold on the e-read at the library as I have a kobo.

I plan to attend on April 17. I was an avid reader and have not read as much in the last couple of years' I am retired and think it is time to get back to enjoying a good read.
