Many books to mention but the first one - Axel Munthe, "The History of San Michele" , published in 1948. It is a book of memoirs by a Swedish psychiatrist A. Munthe. After that book - many others influenced the way I look at life.
Ideally in a quiet space, with a soft, classical music in backgound; also while vacationing and being able to relax and fully immersed in book's language and nuances
I remember that my parents hid this book fom me, it was "Forever Amber" by Kathleen Winsor (translated to Czech) and I was eleven years old. This was the first "mature" book that I remember.
I grew up in Europe and loved to read ever since I remember When I came to Canada I embraced many Canadian contemporary writers as well as those writers who immigrated to North America and have been struggling with a "bi-cultural" identity.
Everyone's contributions were very insightful and interesting, what a great mix of people!
