Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

The Organisers invite you to join us for our Book Discussion Evening.

Share views and gain new insights into this months book.

....and to vote for our next book from a list of suggestions from our members.

Drinks and socialising in The Bar from 7.30pm for a 8pm Start in the function room upstairs.

If, as a new member, you need help finding us and becoming acquainted with the group please email the organiser.

*********************************************************

If anyone has a suggestion for our next book please email the details to the message board at... [masked]  Please include a review of the book with your message or better still, tell us in your own words why we should be reading it. Ideally suggestions should be available in paperback (for affordability) not too long or too short [masked] pages seems to work best) and of a decent standard of literature (make your own judgment about that one).

Also please give some thought as to how well the book lends itself to  lively discussion and debate on the night - Such things as a complexity of plot, a variety of themes, philosophical or social issues, well developed characters and perhaps a few unexpected twists and turns.

If you do recommend a book we will ask you to briefly (3 minutes maximum) tell us about the book at the meetup before we put each title to the vote so please come prepared for that. You do not have to chair

Fantastic event as always, the book generated some good views and for such a short book it was great that we did not manage to dry up and run out of things. I hope to make next month but as it is my birthday on the 12 of november i'm not sure what i'll be doing yet.

A very good discussion, thank you Richard, and hey I made the right choice forsaking Molineux for the Book Club. One thing I forgot to mention during the evening was that it seemed to me the revelatory letters at the end of the novel were a Victorian literary equivalent of the modern "found footage" trope played out in films such as The Blair Witch Project.

Yes Annabelle lots of people come to the first one without reading the book. If you have a kindle it's available free if you wanted to start it - it's a very short book

hello - i'd like to nominate a book..... I normally do this a bit more spur of the moment but here goes....
the book is 'The Sisters Brothers' by Patrick Dewitt.... its a comic book, but being book club its suitably darkly comic, and sort of a western meets comedy meets road trip meets philosophical journey and its been nominated for lots of awards, including the booker prize, won a handful, has lots of interesting characters and some touching moments as well as some potential for a really good discussion.... pretty easy read so not one of the more challenging books we've had but still meaty enough in content for a, no doubt, lively and interesting debate in the style of the Birmingham book club. see you next week!

I am looking forward to next months meeting, this is yet another book I would not usually read but i'm looking forward to giving it a go. I have read a few books by Robert Louis Stevenson in the past so he is an author I know.
