May Meetup: Quiet by Susan Cain

For May, we will be reading Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain. Description: At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society. In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts—from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Passionately argued, superbly researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how they see themselves.

Reminder: Time Tested is happy to order a book for you if they don't have it on the shelves - and it's easy! Just call or stop by... they put in orders on Tuesdays and it is often available that Thursday. Be sure to let them know you are with the Sacramento Women's Book Club.

The $5 fee goes to Time Tested Books for letting us use their great space.

Please bring a dish to share with the group (whatever you like!). We mingle for the first 30 minutes and sit down for discussion promptly at 7pm. Thanks!

I'm starting to get sick, too, and I don't want anyone to catch what I have. I have changed my RSVP to no. :(

Hi Ladies, I have to bow out this month. It has been too crazy at work, and I just haven't gotten to this book. Looking forward to next month!

Oh no - I realized that this is the same night that Christopher Moore will be doing a reading in Petaluma that I'd planned on attending. Love that author! Will miss you all again this month!

Hi, I'm new here. This book looks interesting. I'll have to find a copy. Do you all ever discuss the books online. 6:30 is late for me.
