Hi Folks

Well.... at one of the largest meetings yet, there was much discussion on Alison's book, 'White Tiger', covering the political and cultural concerns of the novel and a polarized debate on the morality of the main protagonist. 'We are all made of Glue', nominated by Sonya, had positive comments, especially on the relationships and humour featured in the book.

After much deliberation and calculation the percentage ratings came in with 'White Tiger' at 67% and a resounding 83% for 'We are all made of Glue', knocking Danny's 'Name of the Rose' off the top spot.... well it's only fair Danny! The leaderboard now looks like this:- <Trumpets>

1. We are all made of Glue by Lewycka (SONYA) -83%
2. The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco (DANNY) - 80% - (NB Only read by 6 members!)
3=. Bel Canto by Ann Patchett (JANICE) ? 78%
3=. K-pax by Gene Brewer (LUKE) - 78%
5. The Shanghai Union of Industrial Mystics by Nury Vittachi (ELEANOR) ? 75%
6. Dirk Gently?s Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams (WENDY) ? 73%
7. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo BY Stieg Larsson (SUE) - 73%
8. The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid (Eleanor) - 71%
9. Q and A by Vikas Swarup (ALI) ? 70%
10= On the Other Hand by Chris Cleave (JANICE) - 69%
10= The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (ALI) - 69%
12. The Trick is to Keep Breathing by Janice Galloway (LESLEY) ? 68%
13. Blindness by Jose Saramango (JANICE) ? 68%
14. White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (ALISON MITCHELL) - 67%
15. Be Near Me by Andrew O?Hagan (LESLEY) - 63%
16. Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell (MATT) - 54%
17. A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami (ELIZABETH) - 52%
18. Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie (JANICE) - 37%

A select few nominations were put forward, with three in close running. But the first two past the post and reigning supreme are:

'The Eyre Affair' by Jasper Fforde (SUE)

and....

'Shadow of the Wind' by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (ELEANOR)

Other nominations that you may like to check out at your leisure are:

'The Tin Roof Blowdown' by James Lee Burke
'Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets' by David Simon
'The Deptford Trilogy Fifth Business' by Robertson Davies
'The Girl Who Played with Fire' by Stieg Larsson (sooo close, nearly won!)
'Notes from an Exhibition' by Patrick Gale
So you can get ahead with your reading in preparation for our October Main Meetup, details of which will appear on the calendar shortly. In the meanwhile....

Happy reading smile
Lesley (Organiser, Glasgow Book Club)
