RE: [bookclub-634] Nominations for December

I don't want it knocked off, just wondered if it might!  Both have won prizes apparently.  Pullitzer for Shipping News, and Costa for Secret Scripture.

On another note, for those who are interested.  Watertones are doing Buy One Get One Free including The Secret Scripture.  There's a good selection of other titles, and you can order online should the website have more choice than the store, but I got The Girl Who Played With Fire seeing as it's already been nominated three times, and no doubt will be nominated again next year!

Why do you want to knock my book choice of the top??? Best book this year.

After a fairly close round of voting, these are the winning nominations for December's Book Group:

The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry (nominated by Farrah)
The Shipping News by Annie Proulx (nominated by Lesley)

Other nominations were:

Carter Beats the Devil by Glen David Gold (Bruce)
American Tabloid by James Elroy (Una)
Human Traces by Sebastian Faulkes (Steve)
An Equal Music by Vikram Seth (Eleanor)

Two very different books this month, one a shocking and deeply beautiful story about a life blighted by terrible mistreatment and ignorance but still marked by love, passion and hope, and the other a comedy of human life and possibility. The question is, will either knock We Are All Made of Glue off the top of the leaderboard?!
