March Meetup

Our book for March is "The Master and Margarita", by Mikhail Bulgakov.  This book was chosen at the February Meetup.  A satire written in the 1930's in the Soviet Union, it is considered by some critics as one of the best 20th century novels.

To read a synopsis of the book, please visit the following links:

IMPORTANT  NOTE: There are several translations of this book.  We are reading the Mirra Ginsberg translation.  There are no copies of this translation in the Lucas Co. library system. You can try the Wood Co. library system, or a local bookstore, or order a copy from Amazon.com.

I did not realize there were a few different translations. I wonder if they are vastly different.

If there is anyone who still needs a copy of the Ginsberg translation, I can offer mine.

Unfortunately I'm out of town this week, but I'll be there at the next book club. I'm reading the book!

Well the copy I ordered still hasn't come and there seems to be no ebboks versions where the translation isn't screwed up. It's too bad because I really wanted to read this.

I have a pdf copy of this book from Penguin Classics. It may help. If you would like me to email this copy, please email me at [masked]. I got it from a friend who was previously reading this book. (On a side note, I can never attend meetings with you all due to my school schedule, but I do follow and usually read what the group is reading for the month.)

Okay--I've gotten messages from several members saying they need more time! So I'm changing the meeting date to Thursday March 14th. Hope this is okay with everyone! If this affects your ability to attend, please update your RSVP. Thanks!

Youtube has the 2005 movie "Master and Margaretta" on line. There are 10 episodes, quite good and loyal to the book. Recommend you take a look. Eastern European Friends worship this book and say I cannot possibly understand the book.

How's everyone doing with this book? Do we need more time? I can push the date back if needed.

I just got around to ordering the book. I sort of agree that extra time may be needed. Maybe we can switch with April's book.

I didn't realize when we voted on this book that there were NO copies at the library!!! We may need some extra time to read this book!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
