Hello all!

Help choose a book for this meeting!  At the October Meetup, we discussed a few options, which are listed below:

  • Thin Blue Smoke, by Doug Worgul
  • The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, by Rachel Joyce
  • Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams
  • The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

Please do a little research of your own on these books, and then let us know which one you're most interested in when you RSVP!

Final vote will take place at the November Meetup.

I'm sorry I couldn't make it after all. I was looking forward to it! Hitchhiker was an interesting and amusing book and one I most likely wouldn't have picked up on my own. I will check back for the next book and hopefully meet up with you next time.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow evening! Due to the number of members expected to attend, we'll probably have to split up into two groups again. Also, please be prepared to vote for the January book!

Actually, to add to my last entry, there is a collection of all 3 Dupin stories in one book called The Murders in the Rue Morgue: The Dupin Tales (ISBN-10:[masked]). The total number of pages including all 3 stories is 160, according to what I saw on Amazon.com. Anyhow, please feel free chime in if you folks think you may want to read it.

I would love to read that I think it would be great for February.

Dave, that's a great suggestion! It's been awhile since we've read a classic, and we've never read anything by Poe (I can't even believe I'm saying that!) We will definitely bring it up in the December meeting.

Hello, everyone. I'm Dave and am new to the book club. It looks like the group has selected or narrowed down its choices for the next couple of months. I'd like to make a suggestion if it hasn't been read already: Murders of Rue Morgue by Edgar Allan Poe. Even though Halloween has passed, I think this book would be a good choice for another reason: the main character is Inspector Dupin, who served as a basis when Doyle was writing his stories about another famous fictional detective--Sherlock Holmes. Although I've read a lot of Holmes' stories, I have not read any involving Dupin, and I'd be interested in reading them to see how he influenced Doyle's Holmes character. Dupin appears in two subsequent stories, but Rue Morgue is his debut. If you like classic mystery (like I do) then this may be a good choice. Thoughts anyone, perhaps for January's or February's book to read?
