September: The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

From Wikipedia: "The White Tiger is the debut novel by Indian author Aravind Adiga. It was first published in 2008 and won the 40th Man Booker Prize in the same year.[1] The novel provides a darkly humorous perspective of India’s class struggle in a globalized world as told through a retrospective narration from Balram Halwai, a village boy. In detailing Balram’s journey first to Delhi, where he works as a chauffeur to a rich landlord, and then to Bangalore, the place to which he flees after killing his master and stealing his money, the novel examines issues of religion, caste, loyalty, corruption and poverty in India.[2] Ultimately, Balram transcends his sweet-maker caste and becomes a successful entrepreneur, establishing his own taxi service. In a nation proudly shedding a history of poverty and underdevelopment, he represents, as he himself says, "tomorrow.""

Hope to see you there!

I agree about introductions..my first time, I felt as if I were intruding on a private group where everyone was friends, but went back anyway. I found this is the way the group works, and try to learn names from the conversations. Delightful, diverse group, and good discussions (sometimes too many at one time). Well worth the time spent.

The discussion was a little more chaotic than normal but still a good time!

IMHO a book discussion goes best with a moderator with prepared questions & comments (how about you?). As long as everyone with a relevant comment to make can make it (no boring personal digressions) all is good. Of course, maybe members prefer it chaotic.

I like the idea to start with the prepared questions.. or have each person prepare ONE relevant question or comment to discuss.. also being new... I quick round table of introductions would have been nice.. I was having to use my phone and site to compare faces to names. .

Hello. I'm new here and I'm wondering are we discussing the book that was read in August or are we discussing the book that is under the September column?

I am always excited about coming to the meetings. Everyone is so respectful, and bring other insights that I haven't discovered for myself.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
