We are moving the March 6, 2010 meetup to Saturday, March 13, 2010 to give us more time to read this book.
Our book to read for the month of February is "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. We are mixing historical and romance this month.
"Are they histories? Fantasies? Science Fiction? While it may be impossible to categorize the books Diana Gabaldon calls 'historical fantasies', it hardly matters to the author's huge and loyal fan base, all of whom are just eager to devour Gabaldon's richly detailed, complexly plotted, extravagantly romantic romps through time, space and breathtaking landscapes. The author said she had to incorporate time travel in her novel because she realized her wisecracking female lead couldn't have come from anywhere but the 20th century."
Diana Gabaldon has a background that has a connection to San Diego. She received a B.S. degree from Northern Arizona University in 1973. Then a M.S. degree from Scripps Oceanographic Institute, La Jolla, CA. Then a Ph.D from Northern Arizona University in 1979.
This book is the first in a series.
Claire Randall is leading a double life. She has a husband in one century, and a lover in another...
Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire's destiny in soon inextricably intertwined with Clan MacKenzie and the forbidden Castle Leoch. She is catapulted without warning into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life ...and shatter her heart. For here, James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a passion so fierce and a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
