Hello Ladies. Four weeks out from our April meeting is Mother's Day Weekend and many ladies are disappointed due to they have events going on that weekend and are unable to attend our book club meetup. In researching the calendar and looking ahead we have many holidays coming up that could conflict with our meetups as well. So ... projecting ahead here is a schedule of our meetups for your calendars: May 15, June 12, July 10 and August 7.
It has been a year since we have had a classic to read. So here we go. Our book to read for the month of April and into May is "The Age of Innocence" by Edith Wharton. It is with this book that, in 1921, she was the first woman to ever receive a Pulitzer Price in fiction.
""The Age of Innocence" is a masterful portrait of desire and betrayal set during the sumptuous Gilded Age of Old New York, a time when society dreaded scandal more than death. This is Newland Archer's milieu as he prepares to marry the beautiful but conventional May Welland. But when the mysterious Countess Ellen Olenska returns to New York after a disastrous marriage, Archer falls deeply in love with her. Torn between duty and passion, Archer struggles to make a decision that will either courageously define his life—or mercilessly destroy it."
Happy reading everyone!
