I like the idea of this group that does and doesn't take itself too seriously. I'm a teacher without a classroom (literally), but when it comes to book clubs, I am so interested in hearing about other people, their opinions and outlook. I love to l

Are you a talker? Listener? Icebreaker? All or noneof the above?

I am all of the above, but when I am new to the situation, it's anyone's guess. I tend to be a little shy at first.

What authors, books define you, make you think, make you laugh?

I love Lord of the Rings, but I am also a fan of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. I love Shakespeare, and yet if I can find a funny book such as Eats Shoots and Leaves, I will love that just as much.

Describe a successful discussion.

A successful discussion is when all those who want to participate have had a chance to do so. Active listening is very important for a successful discussion, so I think moments of silence show that we are thinking, not just talking. The more ideas expressed the better it is especially when we can put the ideas together and come up with some sort of consensus. However, it's okay if we agree to disagree. The main ingredient is to not take ourselves too seriously.

What do you hope to get out of the club?

I would love to meet new friends, and enjoy the company of people I have never met before. I am looking to expand my world. It feels too small to me in Aliso Viejo.

Aloha Diane - although our next Meetup is on a Wednesday in my home in Lake Forest - each month just depends on the calendar - I'm still looking for a more permanent location in the OC - preferably near Irvine and in a quiet location as we do a monthly meditation - I actually loved Paradise Perks but it was getting pretty busy in there - I may have a location in Huntington Beach - but I'm not sure members would travel to it. - Again have a great time on Vacation!

Hi Diane, Can't seem to find u on Facebook. Would be great to catch up soon...will be more free in May. I liked that TC Boyle book...out there, but very silly in some sections and made for a great discussion about our environment and taking care of it,etc. Enjoyed the eve even though I finished book only minutes before! :)
