OK, a bunch of stuff to cover here:
First, the November Cambridge Readers meeting for
Room by Emma Donoghue (this Wednesday at 7) will be at:
Life Alive Urban Oasis and Cafe
765 Massachusetts Ave
Cambridge, MA 02139
WebsiteThis is a juice and smoothie bar with some snacky food on Mass. Ave, just a block or so from the Central T stop. They are opening up a new downstairs lounge area on Monday that I'm assured is big enough to accommodate us.
Second, please click the link below to vote for the December book. The choices are the two novels that received a lot of support last time, but we didn't read, along with four non-fiction books. We'll make a final decision on Wednesday at the Room meeting.
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8DRJYW5Finally, attendance has really gotten large over the last few months. At first I figured it might be a seasonal blip, but we've consistently had 15 people or so the last 6 months (and 23 people this past month)! I'm very happy that so many people are interested, but I also think that somewhat more modestly-sized discussions would be better. So, I'd like to add a 2nd book to the docket each month, meaning a meeting in Cambridge about every other week. I figure that few people will choose to read *both* books, and the second meeting will siphon attendance off so that we have two more manageably sized meetings instead of one giant one. The catch is that I'll need someone to organize the second meeting. If you think you might be interested in doing that, send me an e-mail. I don't care if you've been in the group for a year or a day as long as you are willing to take on the responsibilities which will be: selecting the book (you can do this however you like, anything from having people vote to just dictatorially declaring what will be read), selecting a location and posting the meet-up on the site, and preferably showing up at the meeting and leading the discussion.
See you Wednesday,
Nick
