"Deep Play" at JavaVino

We'll discuss "Deep Play" by Diane Ackerman, the unequivocal winner of the poll conducted at our first meeting. One reviewer explains, "Deep play is what helps humans survive, grow, and spiritually transcend, according to acclaimed poet and author Diane Ackerman. Children are of course drawn to deep play--those activities that catapult them into an altered state of consciousness, where all their senses are engaged and for that moment life is timeless and fully absorbing. But few adults are conscious of how this form of deep play continues throughout adulthood."

We'll meet at JavaVino (www.javavino.com), a coffee and wine house located in the Poncey-Highlands neighborhood. They also have many veg*n salad and sandwiches. Your $8 gets us use of the private wine cellar downstairs for two hours as well as some Mediterranean and veggie/fruit platters to share. You can bring cash or pay in advance with paypal. If you'd like anything else to eat or drink, please order and pay at the counter upstairs on your way in.

We need at least 10 "yes" RSVPs by September 10 for this meetup to happen.

Also, take note of these future meetups:
October 16 - to discuss "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith
November 20 - to discuss "On Killing" by David Grossman

Hilary did a great job organizing this event. The food selection was thoughtful and javavino was a good choice.

I really liked the group. There was a lot of free-flowing discussion both about the book, and because of subject the book raised, about life in general. A great first start!

We had a fun discussion about a book that most of us took serious issue with. Once again, a great group of people made for a very enjoyable evening.

I'm really glad I joined this group. Though no one really liked the book, we still enjoyed discussing it and it wasn't just bashing the author. It was very nice to enjoy intimate conversation related to the book and to the topics that sprung from the book.
