A woman, doubtless library personnel, told me and another attendee that wheeled carts and bags would no longer be allowed. There had been a “ton of complaints”. I don’t know whether the complaints were about the space such carts took up or that they held so many books.
The mystery was solved when a security guard started up an audible conversation with an elderly man. He was complaining about people who hoarded these books and this woman took it upon herself to express disapproving surprise when she noticed that I had two extra bags that I was filling up. When she wasn’t responding to the old man’s chatter, she kept commenting about how I couldn’t possibly lift the bag once it was filled with books.
What she was even doing there? Since the swaps were no longer held in the closed room at back, there had been no supervision. Yet she looked as if she was placed there to guard us. From what?
These people need to reassess their policies. This is a book swap not a gallery opening.
