In this talk, 3D artist Jarien Sky will walk through the process of modeling a prop for a 3D game from start to finish. He will show you how to collect reference images, create a game-resolution model in 3ds max, layout UVs in 3ds max, create a high-polygon version of the model in 3ds max and Zbrush, and use xNormal to bake normal and ambient occlusion maps from the high-poly to the low-poly model.

Jarien is a veteran 3D artist currently working for educational software company Cyber-Anatomy. Through past work for video game art outsourcing company Liquid Development, he has created 3D assets for AAA games by various developers. Notable titles include Harmonix's Rockband (PS3/360), Incognito's Warhawk (PS3), Bioware's Dragon Age (PC), and Guerilla Games's Killzone 2 (PS3). His modeling and texturing experience includes natural and man-made environments and props, characters and human anatomy, animals, and vehicles. He has also dabbled in indie projects and has a B.S. in Media Arts & Animation from The Art Institute of Portland in Oregon.
